Poem inspired by The Untamed, lone figure in white robes on a misty mountain path

Poem Inspired by The Untamed: 5 Heartbreaking Truths

This poem inspired by The Untamed is about quiet loyalty. Lan Wangji knows Wei Wuxian after sixteen years, even in a new body. It shows that deep love sees the soul, not the face. Some stories stay in your chest long after the last episode. The Untamed is one of them. This poem inspired by The Untamed is about one small moment that stays with me. A man is gone. He returns in a stranger’s face. And one person knows him at once.

That look is the heart of it. Not the battles. Not the magic. Just being known.

Spoiler note: this post mentions Wei Wuxian’s return. It does not reveal the ending.

The Poem: The One Who Knew Your Face

You left in a storm.
You came back in a stranger’s face.
The whole world looked past you.
He did not.

One look.
That was all he needed.
Not your voice.
Not your name.
Just you.

I wonder what that is.
To be known
when you look like no one.
To be found
when you did not ask.

You carried a flute
and a heavy road.
They called you dark.
They called you dangerous.
He never did.

He asked you to turn back.
Again and again.
You did not listen.
He did not leave.

Sixteen years.
A white robe.
A quiet mountain.
A guqin that kept
your name inside it.

If someone waits for me like that,
I hope I am brave enough
to say, “It’s me.”
And I hope they say,
“I know.”

Why I Wrote This Poem Inspired by The Untamed

The Untamed is a 2019 Chinese series with 50 episodes. It stars Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. It is based on the novel Mo Dao Zu Shi by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. You can check the details on the The Untamed Wikipedia page.

In the story, Wei Wuxian turns to demonic cultivation, a forbidden dark art. People shun him for it. Lan Wangji keeps trying to guide him away from the darkness. Years later, Wei Wuxian returns through a ritual, in the body of another man. Lan Wangji knows him right away. The flute in my poem is Wei Wuxian’s flute, Chenqing. The guqin belongs to Lan Wangji. In his sect, music is a way to cultivate.

Fans also note that the drama left out some romantic parts of the novel, possibly because of China’s censorship rules. So much of the love is shown in looks and quiet acts.

5 Heartbreaking Truths This Poem Taught Me

Here are five truths I found in this poem inspired by The Untamed.

1. Real Love Sees Past the Face

Everyone looked at Wei Wuxian and saw a stranger. Lan Wangji saw him. Faces change. Voices change. A soul is harder to hide from the right person.

2. Staying Speaks Louder Than Words

Lan Wangji is a man of few words. He does not give big speeches. He simply stays and keeps trying. Sometimes love shows in what a person refuses to do, like leave.

3. Being Misjudged Hurts

Wei Wuxian was called dark and dangerous. Being seen wrongly by many is heavy. Being seen rightly by one person feels like air after a long dive.

4. Hope Is Not Weakness

Sixteen years is a long time. Holding on that long takes strength. It means keeping hope while the world tells you to let go.

5. Being Known Takes Courage

The last lines of my poem are about you, not him. To be known, you must be brave enough to say, “It’s me.” That is the hardest part.

What Each Part of the Poem Means

The storm is the past. It is the loss and the chaos.

The stranger’s face is the new body. It is the world not seeing the real person.

The flute and the heavy road are the choices that made others afraid.

The guqin is the love that kept going.

The last stanza is the wish to be known, and to be brave enough to say so.

How to Write Your Own Poem

Want to write your own poem inspired by The Untamed, or any show? You do not need fancy words. Try these steps:

  • Pick one small moment, not the whole plot.
  • Write what you felt, not what happened.
  • Use short lines. One breath each.
  • End with a wish or a question.

Final Thoughts

A poem inspired by The Untamed can be small and still say a lot. Mine says one thing: to be known is a gift. If you have someone who would know you in any face, tell them. If you are still waiting to be known, keep going. For more poems like this, visit the Longing collection. And if you write your own, I would love to read it. Leave a line in the comments.
