Introduction
There is a moment every heart knows. It is the moment you find out someone you loved was never who you thought they were. Your chest gets tight. Your stomach drops. You go back over every little moment, looking for the sign you missed. This is one of my brokenhearted poem. It came from that exact moment. I liked someone. I trusted him. Then I learned the truth about who he really was, and it broke something in me that took a while to put back together.

The Poem
The voice that sang a melody,

I thought it was for nobody.
The eyes that played a game so sweet,
Weren’t the rose, unique, elite.
The face that shines like galaxies,
I found out he was not for me.
The boy who once lit up my days,
Now brightens others in new ways.
The one who sang those love-filled lines,
Now crafts songs for other hearts, not mine.
I found out he was not for me.
The Story Behind This Poem
I liked someone. His voice, his eyes, the way he showed up in small moments made me believe he was different. I thought what we had was real. My chest still gets tight. When I think about how sure I was.
Then I found out he had cheated. The one he cheated was my closest person. I found out he was not the responsible person I believed him to be. The same warmth I thought was only for me was never mine to keep. He moved on like nothing happened, and I was left holding the truth alone, replaying every moment to see what I missed.
This poem is my way of putting that realization into words. It is not just about losing him. It is about losing the version of him I had built in my head. If you know that same quiet ache, you might also feel it in my poem Left Unsaid, about heartbreak that arrives without a warning.
FAQ
- What is this poem about?
- This poem is about trusting someone enough to picture a future with him, then finding out through someone else that he had been doing things behind your back. It captures that moment of disbelief when you learn the truth about a person’s real character.
- Why does the poem repeat “I found out he was not for me”?
- The line comes back because that kind of realization does not hit just once. It keeps coming back until it fully sinks in, the same way disbelief keeps circling back before it turns into acceptance. Disbelief is actually the mind’s way of protecting itself while it works through overwhelming emotional information, according to Psychology Today.
- Is this poem based on a true story?
- Yes. It comes from a real experience of trusting someone enough to imagine a future together, then finding out through a third person that he had cheated and was not the responsible partner he seemed to be.
- What feeling does this poem capture best?
- It captures disbelief. Not sudden anger, but the slow, sad shock of hearing the truth from someone else and needing time to accept it was real.
- Why read brokenhearted poems like this one?
- Brokenhearted poems put words to feelings that are hard to say out loud, especially the confusing mix of disbelief and hurt that comes with betrayal. Reading them can help you feel less alone in your own heartbreak.
